Line U6 is a line on the Vienna U-Bahn metro system.〔http://homepage.univie.ac.at/horst.prillinger/metro/english/u6.html〕 It currently has 24 stations and it runs 17.3 km from to , making it the longest line on the network. However its length will be surpassed by in 2017. It is connected to at , at and at . It opened in 1995. It is the only metro line in the German-speaking area which is not operated by third rail but by overhead wire, this is because the center part of the line is an elevated part of the former Vienna Stadtbahn system, which was operated by overhead wire.
